Adriana Bevione, Senators for a day: an exercise of democracy

On the occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Italian unification, 400 students of primary and junior high schools were involved by the Cultural Centre for Citizenship Education of Turin in a project aimed at fostering reflections upon the cultural and political roots of national history. Starting with a report upon students and educators’ practical experience, this essay suggests a reading based on the educational and training goals of such experience: that is promoting historical knowledge in order to become critical protagonists of one’s future; showing up the importance of active participati on to citizenship; exercising the right to contribute to the democratic construction of society since childhood.
