Riccardo Morello, The Confusions of Young Törless by Robert Musil as teenage novel

The author studies the almost paradoxical centrality of Törless within Musil’s fundamental Bildungsroman. The young protagonist, in fact, doesn’t follow a logical and rational path, but he coexists with the irrationality of the real. The protagonist pays more attention to how things happen than to what happens. According to Morello, Musil doesn’t let Törless follow a linear path towards a personal and social future identity. Instead the conflict and the compromise are the elements of life which painfully lead to the adult age that acknowledges them.
