Lady Augusta Gregory is remembered for her huge contribution to the Irish Literary Revival, thanks to her tireless research on Irish folklore and thanks to the creation – together with her friends Yeats, Hyde and Moore – of an Irish National Theatre. The author of this essay wants to throw light to her drama production, in particular to The Golden Apple: a fairy play addressed to Kiltartan children where the choice of using Hiberno-English dialect is the innovative and unreasonable way to look for a cultural and national identity capable of linking past and present of a long time dominated country.
