is professor of History of Italian Language at the University of Genoa, the city where he was born and where he currently lives and works. “Bachelor of poetry and poet”, as Giorgio Caproni used to describe him, he has published literary studies: Il libro di poesia (il melangolo, 1983); Simulazioni di parlato (Accademia della Crusca, 1991); Pronomi (Il Segnalibro, 1996); Lo stile semplice (Einaudi, 1997); Per interposta persona (Bulzoni, 1999); Montale (Einaudi, 2000); Eroi e figuranti. And then, decisive, the poetical collections which make him, according to many renowned critics, one of the central voices of Italian poetry in recent years: Le faticose attese (San Marco dei Giustiniani, 1988), followed, published by Einaudi, In controtempo (1994); La sostituzione (2001); Pasqua di neve (2008). It must be remembered, always for Einaudi, the translation of Larkin, Finestre alte (2002) and the anthological curatorship Dopo la lirica. Poeti italiani 1960-2000 (2005), which focuses on a strong historical- critical interpretation that wants to portray a new overview of our poetry of the late twentieth century.
